Krabi Airport to Ao Nang: your options
Four main choices, differing in price, waiting time, and flexibility.
The airport bus

- The cheapest of all the options
- Departs on a timetable — you may wait after landing, and the last service does not cover every late flight

Private transfer booked in advance

Krabi Airport to Railay: how it works
Railay is a peninsula with limestone mountains blocking land access. Everyone arrives by boat. Two stages.
Stage one: airport to pier

- From Ao Nam Mao, roughly 10 to 15 minutes by boat

Roughly one to one and a half hours from airport to your Railay beach, including the wait for a boat. Allow more with large luggage — you load it yourself, and longtails beach directly on the sand at some tide levels.
Landing late — can you still get to Railay?
This is the most common problem, and it cannot be solved on the day.
Boats to Railay have a last run
- Scheduled shuttle boats finish in the early evening
- Longtail boats for hire run later, but stop once it is dark, because beaching at night is not safe
- Sailing after dark means chartering and arranging it in advance, at a higher price, and it is not possible every day
What actually works
- Landing before late afternoon — you can continue to Railay the same day comfortably
- Landing early evening — book a charter in advance and give them your flight time, or accept you may not make it
- Landing late — spend one night in Ao Nang or Krabi town and cross to Railay the next morning. Cheaper and no risk.
Booking that first night on the mainland and moving to Railay the following day is what frequent travellers do. It is not a wasted day.

- Book transport ahead if landing late — the bus will have finished and counter cars may be thin
- Carry cash — longtail fares and some shops take nothing else
- Name your beach clearly — Railay has several beaches; give the driver your hotel and beach from the start
- Luggage — heading into Railay means lifting bags into a boat and walking on sand. A duffel beats a hard roller case.
- Check the season — during monsoon some boat routes stop when the swell is up. Have a plan for which side you would sleep on.
